Mexican Independence Day in Coachella Valley

The celebration of Mexican Independence Day is commonly referred to as "El Grito"

After Miguel Hidalgo, a Catholic priest and revolutionary whose words on September 16, 1810, sparked the war that won Mexico independence from Spain.

The city used to host "the El Grito Fiestas Patrias" celebrations, But the COVID-19 pandemic forced an end to them in 2020.

After three years, the festival is coming back to the Park at Rancho Las Flores on Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m.

The occasion is a family affair, and children are invited to participate in a number of games and activities.

There will be seven musical acts, including Grupo Karisma, Los 2 De La S, and Los Morros del Norte.  

At the event, alcohol will not be permitted; however, food will be sold by a number of truck vendors.

Live performances by Banda la Reyna del Valle and Mariachi Coachella will start at 5:30 p.m.

The festivities will also feature Mexican folkloric dancing and a performance by the dancing horse troop Escaramuza Charra Alteza.
